Request a Passport at Poste Italiane

As of July 2024, the passport application and renewal service is available at all Italian post offices. The procedure was initially launched on an experimental basis in March 2024 in municipalities with less than 15,000 inhabitants, and is now extended to the entire national territory. Thanks to an agreement between the Italian Post Office, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, citizens can submit their passport application directly at the post office, without going to the Police Headquarters. Cost of a Passport at Poste Italiane

The cost to apply for a passport through the Italian Post Office amounts to 130.2 euros, divided as follows:

  • Postal service: 14.20 euros (VAT included), as established by the Decree of July 3, 2024.
  • Legal fees: 42.50 euros for the request through a postal bulletin and 73.50 euros for the stamp that can be purchased at the tobacco shops.

If you want a home delivery of your passport, there is an additional cost of 9.53 euros, to be paid in cash upon delivery. This amount was established by the Decree of October 6, 2023.

How to Book a Passport Appointment

The first step in applying for a passport is to make an appointment at the post office. You can do it through the Poste Italiane app or on the official website. After selecting the nearest post office, you can choose a time and day to submit your passport application.

Documents Required to Apply for a Passport

When you go to the post office to apply for your passport, be sure to bring the following documents with you:

  • Valid identity document
  • Tax code
  • Two photographs, one of which is notarized
  • Postal bill paid for the ordinary passport (42.50 euros)
  • 73.50 euro stamp

If you need to renew your passport, also bring your old passport or a copy of the lost or stolen report.

Passport Delivery at Home

If you want to receive your passport at home, request it at the time of the application at the post office or at the Police Headquarters.
