What is the Teacher’s Card
The Teacher’s Charter is a measure envisaged by the Ministry of Education to support the professional updating of teachers. It was introduced for the first time with Law 107/2015 (known as Good School) and provides for the provision of an annual bonus of 500 euros, which can be spent on the purchase of educational materials
and training.
The card can be used to purchase books, magazines, software, technological tools, tickets for museums and cinemas, university courses, master’s degrees and certified refresher courses.
Teacher’s Card 2024/2025: when is it activated
The Teacher’s Card for the 2024/2025 school year will be activated starting Monday, October 14, 2024. Teachers who are entitled to the bonus will be able to access the dedicated platform and generate their own vouchers to be used until August 31, 2026. The amount of 500 euros will also be confirmed for this school year.
Who is entitled to the Teacher’s Card
The Teacher’s Charter applies to all permanent tenured teachers who work in state schools. This includes both full-time and part-time faculty. The following are also among the beneficiaries
:
- teachers in training and probationary periods;
- teachers declared unsuitable for health reasons;
- supervised, posted or off-duty teachers;
- teachers serving in Italian schools abroad and in military schools.
As for precarious teachers with an annual substitute contract, the measure has not been renewed for the 2024/2025 school year.
How to activate the Teacher’s Card
To use the Teacher’s Card, teachers must log in to the official portal (cartadeldocente.struzione.it) using their SPID or CIE credentials. Once you log in, you will be able to view your balance and generate vouchers for the purchase of goods or services.
Here are the steps to generate a voucher:
- Access the Teacher’s Card site with SPID or CIE.
- Select the ‘Create Voucher’ option from the main menu.
- Indicate the type of purchase (in person or online) and the desired good or service.
- Enter the amount corresponding to the value of the good or service.
- Generate the voucher and save the QR code, bar code or alphanumeric code to present it to the merchant.
What can you buy with the Teacher’s Card
The Teacher’s Card can be used for a wide range of purchases related to professional development, including:
- Books and texts, even in digital format, publications and magazines useful for professional updating.
- Hardware and software.
- Registrations for refresher courses, degrees, masters and postgraduate courses.
- Tickets for museums, cinemas, theaters and live shows.
- Tools consistent with the activities of the Three-Year Training Offer Plan (PTOF) and the National Training Plan (PNFD).
It is not possible to buy devices such as smartphones, printers or cartridges, nor items related to electronic communication.
News for 2025
Starting from 2025, there may be changes to the amount of the Teacher’s Card. In fact, the proposal has been made to reduce the bonus from 500 euros to 400/420 euros. However, this reduction has not yet been confirmed and will be evaluated during the discussion on the 2025 Budget Law

Deadlines and waste management
The Teacher’s Card for the 2024/2025 school year will be valid until 31 August 2026. If there is a remaining balance left at the end of the school year, the amount not spent will be cumulated with the bonus for the following year. No specific procedure is required: the remainder will be automatically loaded onto the card for the new school year.
