UniCredit and the acquisition of Alpha Bank Romania
UniCredit recently completed a major acquisition transaction, obtaining 90.1% of Alpha Bank Romania from Alpha International Holdings. This strategic step took place in exchange for 9.9% of UniCredit Romania’s share capital and a disbursement of approximately 255 million euros in cash. The acquisition represents a significant step in the previously announced partnership between UniCredit and Alpha Services and Holdings, and initiates a process of gradually integrating Alpha Bank Romania into
the UniCredit Group.
The integration and merger process
The merger of Alpha Bank Romania into UniCredit Bank is scheduled for the second half of 2025. This process will not only strengthen UniCredit’s position in the Romanian market, but will also bring the Group to third place in the local banking sector, with a combined market share of around 12% in terms of total assets. The integration of Alpha Bank Romania is seen as an opportunity to expand the service offering and improve operational efficiency, thus contributing to greater competitiveness in the market

Through this transaction, UniCredit is strategically positioned to respond to the growing demand for renewable electricity, in particular in the offshore floating wind power sector. Collaboration with strategic partners for the development of sustainable energy projects is essential to face future challenges and contribute to the energy transition
