An important cash injection
Every year, the thirteenth month’s rent represents a crucial moment for millions of Italians. With more than 32 million employees and retirees receiving it, the total amount is estimated to amount to about 51.3 billion euros, an increase of 7.8% compared to the previous year. This money represents an important injection of cash for families, but its destination is often influenced by fixed expenses and accumulated debts
.
Thirteenth month’s destinations
According to a survey conducted by Confesercents, only 16% of the beneficiaries believe that the thirteenth does not have a significant impact on their finances. On the contrary, for more than 53%, this amount allows them to live more peacefully, while 31% consider it essential to cover otherwise unsustainable expenses. Among the main destinations, 14% will use part of the thirteenth to pay mortgages and loans, while 21% will focus on overdue
bills and payments.
Holiday expenses and savings
An interesting aspect that emerged from the survey is that a significant part of the thirteenth will be allocated to Christmas gifts. About 44% of respondents said they will use the amount to buy gifts, while 16% plan to use it for other holiday-related expenses. In addition, 18% of Italians intend to use the thirteenth for trips or holidays during the Christmas period. This involves a total expenditure of about 18.7 billion euros for these items alone
.
Impact on trade and the economy
The retail trade, especially neighborhood stores, is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the thirteenth. Christmas sales, in fact, have had a slow start and it is hoped that the additional cash will stimulate spending in physical stores. As pointed out by Confesercents, the absence of delivery times, typical of online purchases, represents an advantage for traditional stores. In addition, a recovery in household spending is essential to support economic growth, especially in a context of weak exports and industrial production.
Conclusions on the importance of the thirteenth
In summary, the thirteenth month’s rent is not only a bonus for Italian families, but a crucial element to stimulate the economy during the holidays. With careful planning, families can use this amount to meet necessary expenses and contribute to the revival of local businesses. The hope is that, despite economic uncertainties, the thirteenth may represent an opportunity to improve the financial well-being
of Italian families.
