Scooter policies: costs and news after the road safety law

Costs of scooter policies

With the final approval of the DDL on road safety, policies for scooters have become mandatory. According to a survey conducted by Facile.it, insurance costs vary considerably. Head of household RC policies, which offer full coverage for the policyholder and his family, start at around 75 euros per year. These policies may also include damage caused to third parties while riding the scooter
.

On the other hand, specific policies for scooters, which cover damage to third parties or to third-party objects, have a price that starts at about 40 euros per year for a single cover. If you want a policy that protects all members of the family, the cost can go up to 80 euros. Interest in these policies is growing strongly, with a 285% increase in online searches compared to the previous month
.

The uncertainties about the new regulations

Facile.it experts warn that it is essential to understand what characteristics scooter insurance products must have according to the new legislation. A crucial aspect is whether the insurance obligation will be tied to the person or the vehicle. Currently, commercial policies protect the person, but if the obligation were to pass to the vehicle, as is the case with cars, the products must be adapted, which could lead to changes
in prices.

Impact of the new rules on road tickets

The new Highway Code also introduces changes regarding speed cameras, establishing stricter rules for the installation and recognition of devices. These regulations could affect the revenues of municipalities, which collected 1.3 billion euros in the first ten months of 2024 thanks to road fines. Lombardy is confirmed to be the region with the highest income, followed by Lazio and Emilia-Romagna. Milan, with 128.7 million euros, leads the ranking of cities with more than 250 thousand inhabitants, followed by Rome
and Turin.
