Sassari is the Italian city where people spend the most on pizza

Sassari: the capital of expensive pizza

According to a survey conducted by AltroConsumo, Sassari ranks first among Italian cities for the average cost of a meal in a pizzeria. With an average expenditure of 14.11 euros for pizza, drinks, cutlery and service, the Sardinian city surpasses Milan and Venice, which amount to 13.50 and 13.47 euros respectively. This data highlights how the cost of living and the demand for quality pizza are affecting prices significantly
.

A detailed cost analysis

The AltroConsumo survey analyzed the prices of the best-selling pizza in each pizzeria, together with the cost of the most consumed drink. The data, provided by ISTAT to the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, show an increase of 4% compared to September 2023 and an average increase of 9% compared to two years ago. This trend suggests that consumers are spending more on a pizza restaurant meal, influenced by factors such as inflation and the choice of more expensive ingredients
.

The cheapest cities and the most expensive

While on the one hand Sassari leads the ranking, on the other hand Livorno stands out as the cheapest city, with an average expenditure of 8.67 euros. In this city, you rarely exceed the 11 euro threshold for a pizza meal. Other cities in the South, such as Naples, are at the bottom of the ranking, offering affordable prices for a pizza and a drink. Rome, although a little more expensive, has pizzerias where it is possible to find offers starting from 8.50 euros
.

A change in consumer tastes

AltroConsumo points out that the increase in average spending could reflect a change in consumer tastes. If an increasing number of customers opt for pizzas with more expensive ingredients, it is natural that the average cost of a pizza meal will increase. This phenomenon is particularly evident in tourist cities, where prices can reach up to 24 euros for a full meal, as in the case of Venice.
