Saipem wins key sustainability projects in the United Kingdom

Saipem and its commitment to the environment

Saipem, a leader in the energy infrastructure sector, has recently obtained two significant contracts that mark a step forward towards environmental sustainability. The projects, Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) and Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT), are dedicated to the development of offshore infrastructure for the transport and storage of CO2 in the UK’s East Coast Cluster. With a total value of about 650 million euros and an expected duration of 30 months, these projects represent an important opportunity for Saipem to actively contribute to the fight against climate change
.

Details on NEP and NZT projects

The NEP project was entrusted to Saipem by Net Zero North Sea Storage Limited, part of a consortium that includes prominent names such as bp, Equinor and Total Energies. This project involves the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of a 28-inch offshore pipeline, approximately 143 km long, with ground-based facilities for control and inspection. On the other hand, the NZT project, entrusted by Net Zero Teesside Power Limited, will focus on the water evacuation line, which is also an integral part of the strategy
to reduce CO2 emissions.

Environmental impact and future objectives

Once completed, these projects will not only contribute to the creation of the first zero-emission industrial hub in North East England, but will also help the UK achieve its Net Zero goals. It is expected that, starting in 2028, the system will be able to transport and store about 4 million tons of CO2 per year. This represents a crucial step towards the energy transition and the reduction of the environmental impact of industrial activities.

Conclusions and prospects for Saipem

The recent assignment of these projects to Saipem highlights the growing importance of sustainable technologies in the energy sector. With the final approval of the investments by customers and the British government, Saipem is preparing to play a fundamental role in the construction of infrastructures that not only meet energy needs, but do so in a responsible and sustainable way. This is a clear sign that the future of energy is increasingly oriented towards ecological and innovative practices
