The current context of RC car tariffs
In November 2023, the average price of RC car insurance in Italy stood at 416 euros, maintaining stability compared to the previous month. However, this stability does not necessarily reflect low tariffs, as Italian provinces show a significant increase in costs on an annual basis.
According to the Institute for Insurance Supervision (Ivass), the provinces most affected by price increases are Rome, with an increase of 10.5%, and Sondrio, which follows with 9.8%.
The provinces with the highest and lowest rates
Analyzing the data, it emerges that the province of Naples holds the record for the highest rates, with an average of 600 euros per policy. In second place is Prato with 586 euros, followed by Caserta at 537 euros. On the contrary, the most affordable province is Enna, with an average prize of 293 euros, followed by Potenza and Oristano, 306 euros and 308 euros respectively. The difference between the most expensive province and the cheapest province reaches 307 euros.
The causes of the increase in tariffs
According to trade associations, the increase in RC car rates is unsustainable and inexplicable, especially considering the record profits of insurance companies, which reached 8 billion euros in the last year, an increase of 249% compared to the previous year. Gabriele Melluso, president of Assoutenti, stresses the urgency to apply the Constitutional Court ruling that makes direct compensation optional, and to reform the supervisory authority to ensure governance independent of the
insurance sector.
Impact of new technologies and requests for reform
Modern cars, increasingly sophisticated, involve high repair costs, thus contributing to the increase in policies. Federcarrozzieri asked the Government to establish a “medical record” for cars, to monitor the interventions carried out and prevent distortions in the market. This approach could help contain policy costs, making the market more transparent and fair for consumers
.
Future prospects and territorial differences
Looking ahead, forecasts for December 2023 indicate a possible further increase in tariffs. According to the Facile.it Observatory, the average cost to insure a four-wheeled vehicle could reach 643.95 euros, an increase of 6.19% compared to the previous six months. The territorial differences are significant, with Tuscany registering the highest number of fault-based claims, followed by Sardinia and Liguria. Statistics also show that women and older drivers are more affected by fare increases.
