NFT in MetaMask: here’s how to view them

The MetaMask Wallet extension is not compatible with NFT. So, you cannot actually view the NFT in the MetaMask browser extension. However, you can see your NFT’s voice on it.

To view your NPTs, you need to use the MetaMask mobile application. The MetaMask mobile application will display the NPTs in the “NFT” tab.

MetaMask has released a feature called “NFT Auto Detection“.

Enabling the NFT detection feature will automatically display your NFT from OpenSea. However, this feature is currently only for “Ethereum Mainnet“.

If you can’t see your NPTs even after turning on MetaMask’s auto-detect feature, or want to view your NFT or NFT Polygon or Binance Smart Chain from marketplaces other than OpenSea, you need to add those NFTs manually.

How to view NFT in MetaMask Wallet?

To view NFTs in MetaMask, you need to enable the “NFT Auto Detect” feature.

If this doesn’t work, you need to copy the contract address and token ID of the NFT from the listing page.

Then, download the MetaMask mobile application and tap on “Import NFT“.

Then, paste the address and ID of the NFT contract to import it.

You can now view your NFT in the MetaMask Wallet application.

Steps to view NFT in MetaMask

  1. Enable the “NFT Auto Detect” feature
  2. Copy the NFT contract address and token ID
  3. Install the MetaMask mobile application
  4. Switch to the “NFT” tab
  5. Paste the address and contract ID

1. Enable the “NFT Auto Detect” feature

To enable the “NFT Auto Detection” feature, go to “Settings” in the MetaMask mobile application.

Then, tap on “Security & Privacy” and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Now, you need to see the “Enable OpenSea API” and “NFT Auto Detection” options. Swipe the “toggle” icon of both options to turn on auto-detection.

Now, go to the “NFT” tab to view your NPTs.

In case you can’t view your NPTs there, you should follow the steps below to add them manually.

2. Copy NFT contract address and token ID

To find and copy the contract address of your NFT, you need to go to the listing page.

You may have purchased this NFT on OpenSea, Rarible or one of the best NFT marketplaces. Go to the NFT marketplace where you purchased your NFT.

In this article, I will use the OpenSea NFT market since my NFT is on it.

Once you have gone to the NFT market website, you need to link your portfolio to locate your NFT.

To connect MetaMask to OpenSea, you can refer to this detailed article.

After establishing the connection, you need to enter the “Collected” section by clicking on “Profile icon“.

Then, click on your NFT and scroll down a bit to reach the Details” tab.

Now, expand the “Details” tab to copy “Contract Address” and “Token ID“.

You can also locate your NFT without linking your wallet by searching for the exact ID or name of your NFT.

3. Install the MetaMask mobile application

If you have already installed the MetaMask mobile application, you can skip this step.

The MetaMask application is available for Android and iOS.

After installation, if you already have a MetaMask account, tap on “Import using Secret Recovery Phrase“.

If you don’t have an account, you need to create a MetaMask account by tapping “Create a new wallet“.

The MetaMask account creation process will consist of two steps: setting up a new password and backing up the restore phrase.

4. Switch to the “NFT” tab

By default, after installation, you will be on the “Ethereum Mainnet“.

Be sure to switch to the same network as your NFT.

If your NFT is on Polygon, you must be on the Polygon Mainnet. If you wish, you can check out these articles on how to add networks to MetaMask: add polygonal network to MetaMask or add BSC network to MetaMask.

Now, by default, you will be in the “Tokens” tab. However, you need to switch to the “NFT” tab.

5. Paste the address and contract ID

Now you will be able to see the “Import NFT” option at the bottom of the NFT page.

Now you need to paste “Contract Address” and “Token ID” that you copied in step 1.

Finally, tap on “Import“.

By tapping on the Import option, you will be able to see your NFT in the “NFT” tab.

Note: Some of the NFTs may not display correctly. However, you can see their existence.

conclusion

Viewing your NPTs in MetaMask has been simplified with an “Automatic NFT Detection” feature. However, this feature is only meant for the Ethereum network.

There may be a chance that your NFT is not visible in MetaMask even after activating the NFT auto-detect feature or if your NFT is not Ethereum-based or you have purchased NFT other than the OpenSea marketplace.

In these cases, you must import it manually as described in this article (Step 2-Step 5).
