MetaMask wallet: here’s how to create it step by step

MetaMask is a cryptocurrency wallet and gateway for blockchain applications.

It is available as a browser extension on Chrome, app Store, and Google Play Store.

The wallet includes a key deposit, secure access, a token wallet, and a token exchange.

In addition, it allows you to connect to blockchain applications securely.

With MetaMask, you can interact with applications like Axie Infinity and Uniswap.

If you are looking to buy Axies, you need to have a MetaMask wallet to store your Ethereum.

On the other hand, if you are looking to exchange Ethereum for a token, you need to connect your MetaMask wallet to Uniswap.

When you interact on the decentralized web, MetaMask gives you full control.

In this guide, you will learn how to create a MetaMask wallet so that you can interact with blockchain applications.

How to create a MetaMask wallet

To create a MetaMask wallet, you need to add the MetaMask extension to Chrome.

Then, you will be able to create a wallet by following the on-screen instructions.

The wallet creation process contains 3 steps.

This includes creating a password, saving the backup phrase, and confirming the backup phrase.

Storing the backup phrase is the most important step.

This is because you need it to import your MetaMask wallet.

It is important to store the backup phrase in a safe place.

Anyone who has your backup phrase will be able to steal your Ethereum.

After storing the backup phrase, you need to verify it to create the wallet.

Here’s how to create a MetaMask wallet:

1. Add MetaMask to Chrome

Before you can create a MetaMask wallet, you need to add the MetaMask extension to Chrome.

If you’re using a mobile device, you need to download the MetaMask app from the App Store or Google Play Store.

In this guide, we’ll create a MetaMask wallet on Chrome instead.

To begin with, you need to install Chrome on your PC if you haven’t already.

Next, search for “MetaMask” on Google and click on the first search result that says “MetaMask”.

Then, click “Download” on the MetaMask website.

Alternatively, you can click this link to go to the MetaMask extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/metamask/nkbihfbeogaeaoehlefnkodbefgpgknn.

Once you are on the extension, you need to add it to Chrome.

Click “Add to Chrome” to add the MetaMask extension to Chrome.

2. Click on the MetaMask extension

After adding the MetaMask extension to Chrome, you need to open it.

In Chrome’s top navigation bar, you’ll see a puzzle icon.

Click the puzzle icon to open Chrome extensions.

Scroll down the Chrome extensions until you find the MetaMask extension.

Click “MetaMask” to open the MetaMask extension.

In addition, you can add MetaMask to the toolbar by clicking on the pin icon.

3. Click on “Get Started”

After clicking on the MetaMask extension, you will land on the “Welcome to MetaMask” page.

On the page, you will be greeted with a welcome message.

You’ll also see a button that says “Get Started.”

Click “Get Started” to start creating your MetaMask wallet.

4. Select “Create a wallet”

After clicking “Start”, you will land on the “New to MetaMask” page.

On the page, you will see a couple of options.

This includes “No, I already have a secret recovery phrase” and “Yes, let’s get ready!”.

The “No, I already have a secret recovery phrase” option allows you to import an existing wallet using a backup phrase.

On the other hand, the “Yes, let’s get ready!” option allows you to create a new MetaMask wallet.

Since this is your first time using MetaMask, click “Create a Wallet” to create a new MetaMask wallet.

5. Click on “I agree”

After clicking on “Create a wallet”, you will land on the “Help us improve MetaMask” page.

On this page, MetaMask states that you need to collect usage data.

This is to better understand how their users interact with the extension.

To create a MetaMask wallet, you must agree to the terms.

The main term you need to accept is sending anonymous click and page view events.

MetaMask will never collect your IP address or sell your data.

Click on “I agree” to accept their terms.

6. Create a password

After clicking “I agree”, you will land on the “Create Password” page.

On the page, you need to create a password for your MetaMask wallet.

First, create a password and enter it in the “New Password” field.

Keep in mind that your password must be a minimum of 8 characters long.

Then, enter the password again in the “Confirm Password” field.

Then, you must read and accept the Terms of Use.

Finally, click “Create” to create a password.

7. Store your backup phrase

After creating a password, you will land on the “Secret Backup Phrase” page.

In this step, you will be given a secret backup phrase.

Your secret backup phrase allows you to import your MetaMask wallet.

First, click on the lock icon to reveal the secret words.

Then, copy the backup phrase and keep it in a safe place.

There are a couple of ways to store the backup phrase.

This includes storing it in a password manager or writing it down on a piece of paper.

Do not reveal your backup phrase as others will be able to steal your Ethereum.

After storing the backup phrase in a safe place, click “Next” to proceed to the next step.

8. Confirm your backup phrase

After clicking “Next”, you will land on the “Confirm your secret backup phrase” page.

Now that you have stored the backup phrase in a safe place, you need to confirm it.

On the page, you will see the words of your recovery phrase in a confusing order.

To confirm the backup phrase, you must select each word in the correct order.

For example, if the first 3 words of the backup phrase are “apple”, “banana”, “pear”.

Click on “apple”, “banana” and “pear” respectively.

After selecting each word in the correct order, click “Confirm” to confirm the backup phrase.

9. Get started with MetaMask

After confirming the recovery phrase, you will land on the congratulations page.

This means that you have successfully created a MetaMask wallet!

Click “All Done” to complete the wallet creation process.

Now you will be able to send Ethereum to your MetaMask wallet.

To do this, you need to copy your Ethereum address from your MetaMask wallet.

If your Ethereum is stored in a cryptocurrency exchange like Binance, you need to navigate to the withdrawal page on it.

Then, paste your Ethereum address into the address field, enter the amount of Ethereum you want to send and send it.

Conclusion

Now that you’ve created a MetaMask wallet, you need to make sure you keep your backup phrase safe.

To begin with, you should never share your backup phrase with anyone.

If someone knows your backup phrase, they will be able to access your wallet and steal your Ethereum.

Secondly, you need to store the backup phrase in multiple locations.

This will prevent you from losing it.

If you lose the backup phrase, MetaMask will not be able to recover it for you.
