Egypt’s strategic role in the gas market
Today, the president of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, met Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, to discuss the company’s activities in the country. This meeting represents an important opportunity to take stock of Eni’s initiatives, which focus mainly on the production of natural gas. Eni’s initiatives in Egypt
During the meeting, Descalzi highlighted Eni’s activities both on land and at sea, stressing the importance of exploring a large portfolio of assets. Eni, through its subsidiary IEOC, is currently the main producer of hydrocarbons in Egypt, with a production of about 318,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2023. This leadership in the sector allows Eni to contribute significantly to the Egyptian economy and to strengthen its position in the global gas market

Energy transition and sustainability
Another central theme of the meeting was the energy transition path. Descalzi illustrated Eni’s commitment to promoting decarbonization initiatives, which include the reduction of methane emissions and the implementation of energy efficiency solutions. Eni is investing in renewable energy, trying to align its operations with global sustainability objectives.
