Matteo Renzi’s income in 2024
Matteo Renzi reconfirms himself as one of the wealthiest parliamentarians in Italy, despite a significant drop in his taxable income. According to the 2024 tax returns, the former Prime Minister declared an income of 2,307,346 euros, down from 3.1 million the previous year. This drop of about 880,000 euros does not prevent him from maintaining the title of ‘Scrooge’ among Italian political leaders
.
Comparison with other political leaders
Despite the decline, Renzi remains one of the politicians with the highest income. However, the list of the richest parliamentarians is still being completed, with prominent figures such as lifetime senator Renzo Piano and League MP Antonio Angelucci who could compete for the title. Renzo Piano, in 2023, had declared almost 2.9 million euros, most of which earned abroad,
in France.
Other significant incomes in the political landscape
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni saw her income increase from 293,500 euros to 459,460 euros in 2024, thanks to the sales of her books, including “I am Giorgia” and “Giorgia’s version.” Even Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini declared an income of 99,699 euros, with deductions for building recovery interventions and anti-seismic measures.
On the contrary, Elly Schlein, secretary of the Democratic Party, maintained the same income as in 2023, amounting to 98,471 euros.
The economic landscape of Italian politicians
These data not only offer an overview of the incomes of Italian politicians, but they also reflect the country’s economic and social dynamics. The variation in incomes, especially for prominent figures such as Renzi and Meloni, can influence public perceptions and political strategies. With the growing focus on transparency and fairness, it’s crucial to monitor how these revenues may impact future policies and voter confidence
