Lane wins 152 million contract to improve Interstate 77

An important step for South Carolina’s viability

Lane, an American company controlled by Webuild, recently obtained a major contract worth 152 million dollars to improve traffic on Interstate 77, one of South Carolina’s main arteries. This project not only represents a significant investment in infrastructure, but it also fits into a wider context of economic and industrial development in the region
.

The project and its economic impact

The project, commissioned by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, involves the design and construction of a road system that will include an interchange to facilitate access to the new plant of Scout Motors, a US car brand owned by Volkswagen. This plant, located in Blythewood, is expected to create up to 4,000 jobs, thus contributing to a significant economic boost for
the local community.

Infrastructure development strategy

The South Carolina region is confirmed to be a strategically crucial area for infrastructure development, supported by a modernization plan aimed at creating safer, more efficient and sustainable roads. With this new contract, Lane’s 2024 portfolio exceeds one billion dollars in new agreements, further consolidating its position in the North American market, which represents 13% of the
group’s total revenues.

Economic and industrial situation in Italy

In a wider context, industrial production in Italy remained unchanged in October compared to September, according to data provided by ISTAT. However, in the August-October quarter, there was a decrease of 0.7%. Changes in the energy and consumer goods sectors show an increase, while capital and intermediate goods fall.
This situation highlights the challenges that the Italian industrial sector must face, at a time when attention is also focused on inflation and the monetary policies of the ECB.

Conclusions and future prospects

Lane’s Interstate 77 contract represents a significant step toward improving road infrastructure in the United States, with direct benefits for the local economy and job creation. While the company is preparing to implement this project, the market remains vigilant on global economic dynamics and policies affecting the industrial sector, both in America and in Europe
