An important step for South Carolina’s viability
Lane, an American company under the control of Webuild, recently won a significant contract worth 152 million dollars to make road improvements on Interstate 77, one of South Carolina’s main arteries. This project is part of a wider context of infrastructure development, aimed at strengthening the road network and supporting the region’s economic growth
.
The link with Scout Motors
Lane’s project is particularly relevant as it supports the construction of the new industrial plant of Scout Motors, a US car brand owned by Volkswagen, located in Blythewood. The construction of this plant is intended to generate up to 4,000 jobs, thus contributing to a significant economic boost for the local community. The design and construction of a new road junction will facilitate access to the site, improving traffic and reducing traffic congestion in the area
.
A growing portfolio for Lane
With this new contract, Lane’s 2024 portfolio exceeds one billion dollars in new deals, further consolidating its position in the North American market. Currently, the North American market represents 13% of the group’s total revenues, highlighting the strategic importance of this region for Lane’s operations. South Carolina is thus confirmed as a crucial area for infrastructure development, supported by a modernization plan that aims to create safer, more efficient and sustainable roads
.
Economic and social impact
The project, commissioned by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, not only aims to improve traffic, but also aims to stimulate the local economy. Reducing traffic congestion will have a positive impact on residents’ quality of life, while increasing employment through Scout Motors represents a significant opportunity for the Blythewood community. This infrastructure intervention is therefore an example of how investments in the public sector can generate long-term economic and social benefits
