Great Western Mining welcomes John Arthur as CFO as Max Williams transitions to company secretary.

John Arthur joins Great Western Mining as chief financial officer

On 1 October 2026, Great Western Mining Corporation PLC disclosed that John Arthur will assume the role of chief financial officer (CFO) with immediate effect. The move follows the retirement of Max Williams from the board, although he will retain his duties as company secretary. The announcement was made from the company’s Dublin headquarters and is expected to shape the financial direction of the miner as it pushes forward on key exploration targets in Nevada.

John Arthur arrives with more than two decades of experience in finance across public and private enterprises in the United Kingdom and abroad. He has previously served as CFO of AIM-listed IOG plc and of UK Main Market-listed Aminex plc, and earlier in his career spent eight years at Seven Energy, a private-equity-backed Nigerian oil and gas firm. Arthur is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and holds a BSc (Hons) in Applied Economics and Accounting from the University of Plymouth.

Board Transition and Leadership Commentary

Chairman Brian Hall praised Max Williams, noting that the finance director has been a “central part of Great Western for the past seven years” and that his diligence and judgment have been “invaluable to the Company.” Hall expressed gratitude for Williams’ contributions and welcomed his continued service as company secretary, ensuring that the board retains his institutional knowledge.

Hall also welcomed John Arthur, emphasizing that his extensive background in financial reporting capital markets, and investor relations will be crucial as Great Western advances its Defender Tungsten Project toward a maiden mineral resource estimate. The chairman highlighted Arthur’s proven ability to lead financing transactions, a skill set that aligns with the company’s growth ambitions across its portfolio of strategic minerals.

Great Western Mining’s Strategic Asset Base

Great Western Mining focuses on the development of strategic minerals within several 100 %-owned claim groups in Mineral County, Nevada. The company’s primary emphasis is on tungsten, a metal essential for aerospace, defense, and clean-energy technologies. The Defender Tungsten Project represents the flagship asset, and the new CFO will oversee the financial structuring required to bring it to production.

Huntoon Copper Project and Additional Opportunities

Alongside tungsten, Great Western continues to progress the Huntoon Copper Project which currently hosts a JORC-compliant resource of 4.3 million tonnes grading 0.45 % copper, with additional porphyry upside. The project also offers exposure to gold and silver through exploration and tailings re-processing initiatives. The board is actively evaluating farm-out and joint-venture options to unlock further value from the broader portfolio.

With John Arthur now steering the finance function, Great Western aims to secure the capital needed for exploration drilling, permitting, and eventual development. The company’s strategy hinges on leveraging Arthur’s expertise in debt financing and equity raising to support both the Defender tungsten effort and the expansion of the copper resource.

Investors and market watchers will be monitoring how the refreshed leadership team balances the capital-intensive nature of mineral exploration with shareholder returns. The appointment signals a commitment to robust governance and disciplined financial management as Great Western pursues its long-term growth objectives.
