The behavior of Italian investors
In recent years, crowdfunding has gained attention as an investment tool in Italy, but its adoption remains limited. According to a study conducted by Opstar, more than half of Italians invest, but only 6% choose crowdfunding. This figure highlights a certain mistrust towards this tool, despite the fact that 44% of the interviewees are aware of its existence. Most investors (51%) take a cautious approach, preferring low-risk products, while 46% opt for diversified strategies that also include
high-risk investments.
The need for financial education
A crucial aspect that emerged from the study is the need for greater financial education in Italy. More than 90% of the Italians interviewed expressed their desire to introduce notions of finance in schools, and 79.7% would like this knowledge to be disseminated also in the workplace. This lack of training could be one of the main reasons why crowdfunding is seen as risky and unreliable by a significant part of
the population.
Preferred investment sectors
Despite the uncertainties, crowdfunding offers interesting opportunities, especially in innovative sectors. 51% of investors focus on projects related to the Green Economy, demonstrating a strong interest in sustainable initiatives. Other growing sectors include Real Estate (39%), Fintech (21%) and Big Data (19%). This data suggests that investors are increasingly attracted to projects that not only promise returns, but that also have a positive impact on the environment and society
.
Geography of investments
Geographically, Northern Italy is confirmed as the main pole of attraction for crowdfunding investments, with Lombardy accounting for 42% of memberships. Milan emerges as the most active financial center, followed by Mantua and Turin. Even Central Italy, with Lazio at the forefront, shows a certain dynamism, while Southern Italy, represented by Campania, still has room for growth. This geographical distribution highlights the economic and cultural differences that influence investment choices in
the country.
