Groupe PSA Italia and Citroën: commitments respected and benefits for consumers

The context of the investigation

The Competition and Market Authority has recently concluded the verification regarding the commitments made by Groupe PSA Italia and Citroën Automobiles. This investigation was initiated due to a significant problem related to the malfunction of the urea tank, an essential component that uses the AdBlue additive, present in some Citroën and Peugeot models. This malfunction has resulted in unexpected costs for many motorists to replace the tank, often out of warranty, creating inconvenience and dissatisfaction among consumers
.

The measures taken

Thanks to the commitments made binding by the Authority, starting from December 2023, consumers and businesses have been able to benefit from significant economic benefits. In particular, the customer assistance program, known as Special Coverage “4UA+4UB”, has been enhanced, allowing many to carry out repairs and replacements at the authorized Citroën and Peugeot network. This intervention has guaranteed discounts and contributions for a total value of more than 6 million euros, thus alleviating the economic burden on the customers affected by the problem
.

Refunds and refreshments for consumers

In addition to economic benefits, refreshments have also been provided for consumers and businesses that had already faced the costs of repairing or replacing the AdBlue tank before the opening of the investigation. These reimbursements, which amount to about 700,000 euros, were provided in the form of vouchers or direct refunds, thus recognizing the difficulties faced by those who had found themselves in a less favorable situation than the new assistance program. These measures represent an important step towards protecting consumer rights and the responsibility of companies towards their customers.
