The company Cygnus Metals has released the final results from an infill campaign at the Golden Eye deposit within the Chibougamau Copper-gold project, marking a key step in its plan to upgrade lower-confidence resources. The winter program completed 15 holes for 5,632 metres, returning several standout intersections that highlight a persistent, gold-rich system accompanied by copper and silver. Many of the best intervals will be fed into an updated resource model that aims to convert tonnes classified as inferred into the higher-confidence indicated category, an essential move for development planning and valuation.
Among the notable assays, the program produced an interval of 8.4m at 16.3g/t AuEq (14.4g/t Au, 1.3% Cu and 12.5g/t Ag) which includes a very high-grade core of 3m at 39.5g/t AuEq (35.0g/t Au, 3.1% Cu and 30.6g/t Ag). Additional significant results include 3.6m at 15.7g/t AuEq and several other multi-metre intervals that together demonstrate continuity of mineralisation. The company says these outcomes support its dual-track approach of resource conversion and expansion across the district.
Drill results and what they mean for the resource
The newly reported assays reinforce the character of Golden Eye as a near-surface, gold-dominant lens with valuable base metal credits. The current Golden Eye resource prior to this update stands at 0.5Mt at 5.6g/t AuEq for 91koz AuEq indicated and 1.2Mt at 4.6g/t AuEq for 182koz AuEq inferred. Because the deposit sits within 100m of surface and has engineered access—double ramp entry to within 140m—any increase in the indicated portion could materially improve the project’s development profile. The infill work aims to tighten confidence around grade continuity and geometry so that those tonnes can be reclassified and incorporated into life-of-mine planning.
Highlighted intervals and historical context
Key outcomes from the campaign include the headline 8.4m at 16.3g/t AuEq (with the 3m high-grade core), plus other notable intervals such as 1.9m at 10.9g/t AuEq and multi-metre zones around 6–7g/t AuEq. These fresh assays complement earlier releases that contained exceptional pockets, for example 5.9m at 28.8g/t AuEq which included a metre of >100g/t AuEq. Taken together, the dataset demonstrates both strong grades and the persistence of mineralised zones that will feed the upcoming resource update.
Gwillim drilling and strategic partnerships
Alongside resource conversion at Golden Eye, Cygnus has started an exploration program at the nearby Gwillim prospect, targeting historic high-grade holes with the objective of defining an initial resource. Historic intersections being chased include 7.6m at 38.1g/t Au and longer moderate-grade holes such as 15.2m at 9.4g/t Au. This first pass at Gwillim is being co-funded by joint venture partner Alamos Gold, a company with a market capitalisation of roughly ~C$23B, which aligns capital and technical incentive to accelerate discovery work. Assays from Gwillim are expected towards the end of the quarter and will determine whether an initial resource can be modelled.
District strategy and near-term objectives
Cygnus is pursuing a hub-and-spoke model centered on the Chibougamau processing facility, combining resource conversion with targeted exploration to grow feed into the central plant. Near-term targets beyond Golden Eye and Gwillim include Copper Rand and Joe Mann, where follow-up drilling is planned to unlock additional value. The company currently operates multiple rigs—historical imagery showed three rigs on an engineered ice pad in March 2026—demonstrating an active program designed to maintain momentum on both conversion and discovery fronts.
Why location and infrastructure matter
The Chibougamau district provides strategic advantages that reduce project execution risk. The site benefits from a 900,000 tpa processing facility located within approximately 3km of Golden Eye, plus supporting infrastructure such as a local mining town, sealed highway access, airport services, regional rail connections and 25 kV hydro power to the mill. Having a nearby, permitted processing plant—the only base metal facility within a roughly 250 km radius—shortens the path from resource to potential production and enhances the economics of near-surface deposits like Golden Eye.
As Cygnus prepares an updated resource that incorporates these final infill assays, the company stresses that further classification of tonnes from inferred to indicated is a central objective, supported by ongoing exploration at Gwillim and district targets. Investors and stakeholders can expect consolidated results and resource revisions in coming releases as the company integrates the complete dataset and advances its hub-and-spoke development plan.
