Football and finance: the richest clubs in the world in 2025

Record numbers for world football

The Deloitte Football Money League 2025 revealed extraordinary results for the world of football, with the 20 richest clubs on the planet generating total revenues of 11.2 billion euros in the 2023/2024 season. This marks an increase of 6% compared to the previous year, highlighting the continued economic growth of the sector. Real Madrid dominates the ranking, becoming the first club in history to exceed one billion euros in revenues in a single season, with more than 1 billion
euros collected.

Top clubs and their revenues

Behind Real Madrid are the usual names: Manchester City with 838 million euros, Paris Saint-Germain with 806 million, Manchester United with 771 million and Bayern Munich with 765 million. As far as Italy is concerned, Milan is confirmed to be the richest club, reaching almost 400 million euros and placing 13th. Inter followed a short distance with 390 million, while Juventus recorded a significant drop, slipping from 11th to 16th place with 355 million euros, due to its absence from European competitions
.

Clubs’ sources of income

An interesting aspect that emerged from the report is that clubs earn more from merchandising than from games. With 4.9 billion euros, commercial activities represent 44% of total revenues, showing an increase of 10% compared to the previous year. This increase was mainly fueled by live non-football events and an improvement in retail sales. On the contrary, television revenues amounted to 4.3 billion euros, without significant changes, since the main championships have maintained the
same broadcasting contracts.

The future of stadiums and competitions

According to Deloitte’s analysis, more than 300 sports stadium projects will be underway globally in 2025, reflecting a growing interest in the construction and modernization of stadiums. Clubs not only want to meet demand, but they also focus on creating entertainment venues that provide better experiences for fans and the community. In addition, the expansion of UEFA competitions and the FIFA Club World Cup could increase the revenues of European clubs, with more teams qualifying for the advanced stages of the
competitions.

Conclusions on economic trends in football

In a context in which the number of games is increasing, it is essential to ensure the well-being of the players to remain competitive. Deloitte points out that, while commercial revenues dominate for top clubs, television revenues remain crucial for teams at the bottom of the ranking. With a promising future for football, clubs must continue to diversify their sources of income to face economic challenges and maintain their status in the global football landscape
